Copper

At Vimco Steel Industries, we harness the versatile properties of copper to deliver top-tier solutions for a multitude of applications. Copper is renowned for its exceptional electrical and thermal conductivity, robust strength, and resistance to corrosion, making it indispensable in modern industries. Its adaptability allows it to be effectively used in pipes and fittings, known for their corrosion resistance and ability to be soldered, brazed, or welded with ease. Furthermore, copper's surface can be polished and buffed to achieve the desired texture and finish, enhancing its aesthetic appeal.

Different grades of unalloyed copper, including oxygen-free variants, cater to specialized needs where superior conductivity and ductility are crucial. These grades ensure optimal performance in applications that demand precision and efficiency. At Vimco Steel Industries, we provide copper products tailored to meet stringent quality standards, ensuring reliability and durability.

A unique advantage of copper lies in its antimicrobial properties. Rigorous testing by the Environmental Protection Agency has demonstrated that over 355 copper alloys, including various brasses, eliminate more than 99.9% of bacteria within just two hours of contact. Importantly, natural tarnishing does not diminish this antimicrobial effectiveness, making copper an excellent choice for environments requiring hygiene and safety.

Copper Applications

Copper is one of the first metals ever discovered by humanity, showcasing its remarkable utility and significance across centuries. At Vimco Steel Industries, we embrace copper’s legacy while innovating for modern industries. From the Greeks and Romans using it for tools, jewelry, and even medical purposes such as sterilizing wounds and purifying water, copper has always been a cornerstone of human progress.

In the modern era, copper’s exceptional conductivity makes it essential in electrical applications, particularly wiring. Its ability to efficiently transmit electricity has cemented its place as a critical material in advanced technologies and infrastructure. At Vimco Steel Industries, we specialize in delivering high-quality copper solutions, blending the timeless advantages of copper with cutting-edge industry demands.

Brass

Brass, a versatile alloy of copper and zinc, offers a unique combination of strength, ductility, and aesthetic appeal. At Vimco Steel, we craft brass solutions tailored to meet diverse industrial and design needs. By varying the zinc content or adding other elements, brass can exhibit a broad spectrum of properties and colors, ranging from red to yellow.

Increased zinc content enhances the alloy’s strength and ductility, making it adaptable to various applications. Here are some key properties of brass based on its composition:

  • With zinc content between 32% and 39%, brass demonstrates excellent hot-working abilities, although its cold-working potential is limited.
  • When zinc content exceeds 39%, such as in Muntz Metal, the alloy achieves higher strength but reduced ductility at room temperature.

Vimco Steel is dedicated to delivering premium brass products that combine performance and elegance, perfectly suited for both functional and decorative purposes.

Brass Applications

At Vimco Steel, we recognize the exceptional versatility of brass, a material cherished for its resemblance to gold and its unparalleled functionality. Brass is widely used for decorative applications, offering elegance and sophistication to any design.

Additionally, its excellent workability and durability make it a preferred choice for crafting musical instruments, ensuring superior performance and longevity.

Vimco Steel is proud to provide premium brass solutions that seamlessly combine aesthetic appeal with reliable functionality.

Bronze

At Vimco Steel, we offer high-quality bronze, an alloy primarily composed of copper, with the addition of elements such as tin, arsenic, phosphorus, aluminum, manganese, and silicon. These additives enhance the material’s properties, making it far stronger and more durable than copper alone.

Known for its distinctive dull-gold color, bronze from Vimco Steel stands apart from other alloys, with faint surface rings that distinguish it from brass. Our bronze products are engineered to provide optimal performance in various industrial applications, offering both strength and aesthetic appeal.

Copper Nickel Grade

Vimco Steel offers the 90/10 cupronickel alloy, consisting of 90% copper and 10% nickel, with small but crucial additions of iron and manganese to enhance strength and corrosion resistance. This combination, along with high ductility and toughness, makes it a favored choice for marine, architectural, and industrial applications. Our 90/10 cupronickel provides exceptional resistance to stress corrosion, erosion, and biofouling in seawater and brackish water. It also offers excellent fabrication and welding properties, resistance to hydrogen embrittlement, and retains its mechanical properties even at cryogenic temperatures.

Vimco Steel supplies the 70/30 cupronickel alloy, made of 70% copper and 30% nickel, with added iron and manganese for enhanced corrosion and erosion resistance. This alloy has slightly improved strength compared to 90/10, making it suitable for demanding applications. Its corrosion resistance is notably improved in high-velocity waters (up to 4.5m/s) and polluted seawater. Our 70/30 alloy is easily cold-worked, fabricated, and welded without special material considerations, providing versatility across industries.
